REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL August 3, 2017 FROM: COUNCILMEMBER BRANDAU COUNCILMEMBER CAPRIOGLIO City Council Offices SUBJECT ..Title BILL - (For introduction) - Amending Subsection (b)(2) of Section 14-1006 relating to the Prohibited Use of Streets as Storage for Vehicles. ..Body RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends approval of amendment to Subsection (b)(2) of Section 14-1006 relating to the Prohibited Use of Streets as Storage for Vehicles. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY [N/A] BACKGROUND On January 12, 2017 Council approved a major amendment to Section 14-1006 of the Fresno Municipal Code relating to the use of public streets for the storage of large vehicles like RVs and trailers. The ordinance prohibited recreational vehicles over eighteen feet in length to park on any street for any more than twenty-four hours during a seven day period. Through enforcement, it has been identified that there is a weakness in the ordinance in regards to trailers that need to be hitched. As written non-motorized trailers are exempted if the trailer is hitched to another vehicle. There have been cases of owners leaving these trailer stored on the street while hitched to get around the ordinance. This ordinance amendment will enable the Parking Services Department to address these trailers as well.
