REPORT TO THE CITY OF FRESNO YOUTH COMMISSION November 18, 2019 FROM: Jose Espinoza, Program Coordinator Youth Leadership Institute BY: Marco Martinez, Senior Deputy City Clerk Office of the City Clerk SUBJECT ..Title Update, discussion and actions pertaining to community service opportunities (volunteer and research opportunities for the Fresno Youth Commission) ..Body RECOMMENDATION Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) Program Coordinator Espinoza recommends the Youth Commission to engage in volunteer opportunities. BACKGROUND At the September 6, 2019 Fresno Youth Commission meeting, Program Coordinator Espinoza encouraged the commissioners to participate in community service opportunities as a commission in order to create broader community partnerships, market the Youth Commission, and do good-will. The commissioners discussed and agreed to participate in community service as a commission. At the September 27, 2019 Fresno Youth Commission meeting, the commissioners decided to research various local non-profit organizations and causes in order to narrow down the community service opportunity that they would engage in as a commission. ENVIRONMENTAL FINDINGS By the definition provided in the California Environmental Quality Act Guidelines Section 15378 this item does not qualify as a "project" and is therefore exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act requirements. LOCAL PREFERENCE Service opportunities will be carried-out at City of Fresno organizations. FISCAL IMPACT
