REPORT TO THE CITY OF FRESNO YOUTH COMMISSION January 14, 2021 FROM: Jose Espinoza, Program Manager Youth Leadership Institute BY: Marco Martinez, Senior Deputy City Clerk City Clerk's Office SUBJECT ..Title Updates, discussion and actions pertaining to the Violence Youth Summit and rising community violence ..Body BACKGROUND At the November 12, 2020 Youth Commission meeting, the organization Faith in the Valley presented information regarding a summit held by youth and City officials pertaining to rising violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. The summit provided youth the space to voice concerns to officials and three main recommendations for youth assistance resulted from the summit: supportive services, mentoring, and safe havens. 1st Vice Chair Martinez, 2nd Vice Chair Galvan, and Commissioner Vergara volunteered to work with Faith in the Family to research and craft policies to bring to the Youth Commission in order to request City Council adequately fund the youth summit recommendations.
