- Board Council, Dan McCloskey was present and represented the Board. Acting Secretary Designee, Karnell Grijalva was also present.
- Appointing Authority, Fire Batallion Chief, Jonathan Chew, was present and represented by Assistant City Attorney, Tina Griffin. The Appellant and Attorney at Law, Thomas Sharpe, was also present. Consideration of the City's Pre-Hearing Motion was continued to May 24, 2017 by Board approved Joint Stipulation and Order.
- Appointing Authority, Fire Battalion Chief, Jonathan Chew, was present and represented by Assistant City Attorney, Tina Griffin. The Appellant and Attorney at Law, Thomas Sharpe, was also present. Decision was approved to continue scheduled hearing on July 19, 2017.

- Members of the public may address the Civil Service Board regarding items that are not listed on the Agenda and within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Board. Each person is limited to a three (3) minute presentation. Board action on unscheduled items, if any, shall be limited to referring the item to staff for a report and possible scheduling on a future Civil Service Board agenda.

Meeting disruption policy

Meetings are conducted so everyone — in the room and watching or calling in remotely — can take part. A person who disrupts a meeting in person may be removed after a warning. Under California SB 707, if a service disruption within the City’s control cuts off the public’s ability to participate remotely, the body takes no further action on agenda items and recesses for at least one hour while staff make a good-faith effort to restore access; the meeting resumes only once remote access is back.
